Meditations on Kansas
Meditations on Kansas reflects a period of time while living in Kansas near the Konza Prairie. The work explores the importance of adversity and failure in transforming one’s beliefs and sense of being. The Konza prairie undergoes seasonal field burnings that imitate naturally occurring wildfires before continued human occupation. This series is both a document and meditation on my experiences with these fires. Through the suggestion of landscape, the work reflects on notions of devastation and growth, and is not a representation of a specific scene or psychological moment, but of a compressed period of time influenced by both my process and lived experiences. Each piece becomes a remnant of those influences.
